Oakland - Lake Merritt and its Venetian Gondolas
So much in Oakland revolves arond Lake Merritt, because it really is such a beautiful expanse of water. Gondoliers gather here to tout for business and tend to target couples. We went on a gondola ride around the lake and to be honest, it was more of a laugh than romantic in a Venetian way. It is very nice to just walk around the outside to be honest, that's probably more romantic, especially when it's quiet.

Chinatown in Oakland
The Chinatown in Oakland was something quite unlike the one that is in San Francisco. This one seems much more authentic and does not really go out of its way to target tourists. It felt like much more of a Chinese American community and was conveniently close to Jack London Square. Of course, it had its fair share of good restaurants as well.

A Stroll Around Lake Merritt
If you only have time to do one thing when you are in Oakland, then take a stroll around Lake Merritt. This is a really peaceful spot and perhaps one of the most scenic parts of the East Bay. The city centre is close on one side, and the skyline is hard to miss.
